Saturday 28 February to Sunday 7 March
Royal National Hotel, Bedford Way, London WC1
The world's leading festival
of Jewish writing last ran from 28 February to 7 March 2004. Our programme included some of the
most celebrated literary figures in the world, alongside new and
sparkling home-grown talent, in sessions designed to inspire,
entertain and provoke, whatever your particular interests.
This year we introduced some exciting innovations. There was an
extended range of sessions for children and teenagers. Two
special programme themes, Jews and the Muslim World and
Gender and Sexuality, explored diverse facets of these compelling
contemporary issues. We went nationwide with our Jewish Book
Week 2004 On Tour programme. And we were delighted to
host a major exhibition of photographs, Diaspora: Homelands
in Exile, by the brilliant French photographer Frédéric Brenner.
We were very pleased to welcome Daunt Books as our bookfair
organiser. Their involvement provided a fresh approach to the
display and range of books on offer. We were particularly proud
this year to introduce to you our new online archive,
the most comprehensive site
about Jewish writing on the web. It includes rare and original
materials, from session transcripts and audio files to a marvellous
range of links and resources. The 2004 Programme is now in our archive. The transcripts and audio files from the sessions will be transferred there in the course of the next three months.
