From agony aunts to lifestyle gurus, the Jewish commitment to self-improvement and fulfilment cannot be underestimated. Irma Kurtz is one of Britain’s leading agony aunts, guiding readers for almost 30 years through the emotional thickets of contemporary life. Carole Caplin urges us in her new book Lifesmart towards an aspirational, holistic approach to self-fulfilment. And Lynne Franks’ mantra is “Be All You Were Born to Be”, combining journeys to inner truth and spiritual growth.

With Naomi Gryn, they discuss their different approaches to life and consider whether Jewishness has played a part.

Irma Kurtz is the agony aunt for Cosmopolitan and The Times and author of Then Again: Travels in Search of My Younger Self (2003).

Carole Caplin is a consultant in health, fitness and well-being. Lifesmart was published in January 2005.

Lynne Franks founded the SEED empowerment programmes for women after making her name in public relations. A new SEED Handbook appears in March 2005.

Naomi Gryn is a writer, broadcaster and filmmaker.  She co-wrote and edited Chasing Shadows (2000).
