In Search of the Real Leonard Woolf

Victoria Glendinning talks to Anne Sebba about Leonard Woolf, exploring his career as a writer, novelist and political thinker, his devotion to his wife Virginia and his complicated relationship with his Jewishness. Henry Goodman reads passages from Woolf’s fiction and non fiction, some of it unpublished today.

Victoria Glendinning is the award-winning biographer of Anthony Trollope, Elizabeth Bowen, Edith Sitwell, Vita Sackville-West, Rebecca West, Jonathan Swift and now Leonard Woolf. She has also written three novels, The Grown-Ups, Electricity, and Flight.

Leading British actor Henry Goodman is a star of the National Theatre, the RSC, the West End and Broadway, and has won Olivier Awards for his performances in Assassins and The Merchant of Venice (as Shylock).

Anne Sebba, biographer, is a former Reuters foreign correspondent. Her latest book, a life of Jennie Jerome, Winston Churchill's American mother, is due out at the end of 2007. She is a trustee of YaD and PEN where she has worked for the Writers in Prison Committee
