The Camel Trail

David Levy, orphaned in Safed in 1837, retrieves a family treasure from the disaster. His grand-daughter finds notebooks that trace his rise in English society but behind the apparent calm lies a story of deception and betrayal. Set in Lisbon, Gibraltar and London, this startling novel explores the legacies we leave our children - silver and sadness; recipes and resentments.

Judy Jackson was originally a translator.  She then established a catering business and a cookery school. This led to a career in food writing and the publication of seven books including The Essential Jewish Cookbook.  Her first novel, The Camel Trail, is a family saga, weaving together fact and fiction. It has been chosen as the UK winner for the Best Food Literature Book 2007 in the World Gourmand Cookbook awards.
