Passion: Miriam Karlin on her many passions

"The sequinned grande dame of British theatre, a Jewish legend and Equity terrorist."

Antony Sher

A pillar of the British acting establishment, lifelong socialist, humanist and thoroughgoing maverick, Miriam Karlin will try to tell us in just 30 minutes some of the many things she is passionate about.

She will talk about her love of acting, her passion for politics (probably inherited from her grandfather who heard Herzl at the first Zionist conference in Vienna), her strong feelings about the Arts Council, her dislike for meaningless phrases and so much more...

Miriam Karlin made her West End debut in 1945. Her award-winning theatre work includes The Diary of Anne Frank, the first British production of Fiddler on the Roof, Mother Courage and Torch Song Trilogy. She worked with Peter Sellers and made a name for herself in the hit TV series The Rag Trade. She worked with Jerome Robbins, Sam Wanamaker, Trevor Nunn, Peter Hall and Stanley Kubrick. She has recently finished the film Flashbacks of a Fool with Daniel Craig and has just published her autobiography, Some Sort of a Life.
