Bookniks Cabaret

An eclectic fusion of music and spoken word with a dose of Yiddish swing, the
popular Bookniks Cabaret returns: hosted by Laoise, with writer and stand-up comic Lana Citron, poets Adam Taylor and Eva Salzman, novelist Rudolph Delson and storytellers Rachel Rose Reid and Ellaya Ayal Mor.

Lana Citron is the author of five novels: Sucker, Spilt Milk, Transit, The Honey Trap and The Brodsky Touch. Other works include: short stories, poetry, an award-winning short film, I was the Cigarette Girl, and the radio play, Love Saboteur. She has also dabbled in acting and stand-up comedy, appearing at the Edinburgh Festival in the 'Four Queens Poker Show' in 2004.

Except for a brief stint in Berlin, where Rudolph Delson earned money by selling subscriptions to his occasionally risqué personal letters, he has made a living, miscellaneously, as a paralegal, a law clerk, and a litigation associate. He quit his job at the law firm on the eve of his thirtieth birthday to write his first novel, Maynard and Jennica.

Ellaya Ayal Mor is an Israeli storyteller who has been performing and conducting workshops throughout Israel and abroad, over the last ten years. Her repertoire encompasses stories, fairytales and myths from cultures around the world. She is currently completing an MA in Drama Therapy. Her motto is “to love stories is to love life.”

Rachel Rose Reid has developed an unique brand of storytelling and song at venues and festivals including the Tricycle Theatre, BAC, Festival at the Edge and Beyond the Border. She is the UK's Young Storyteller of the Year and a resident of London's new Jewish community hub 'The House'. www.rachelrosereid.com

Eva Salzman was born in 1960 in New York City, and grew up in Brooklyn where – from the age of 10 until 22 – she was a dancer and later a choreographer. She was educated at Bennington College and Columbia University, moving to Britain in 1985. She now lives in London. Her eclectic background has led to work in cross-arts projects with artists, dancers and singers. Her teaching work – for children, teenagers and adults – has included projects in London’s East End and a residency at Springhill Prison as well as continuing work for the Poetry Society’s Poet in the City and Poetryclass projects and co-devising a Start Writing Poetry course for the Open University. Double Crossing is her most recent publication.

Adam Taylor is a poet and performer, the author of God's Face in Your Gazpacho.

Laoise currently performs as a vocalist, mandolin and fiddle player with Klezmer House band GhettoPlotz, and in her own Jewish Jazz band, Zing. She is also known as DJ AK, spinning Yiddish swing tunes.
