Exile in Babylon

Dr Irving Finkel, curator of the remarkable exhibition, Babylon: Myth and Reality, at the British Museum, takes us back to the times of Jewish exile and looks at the long lasting influence of this outstanding civilisation on Jewish culture.

Dr Irving Finkel is a curator in the Department of the Ancient Near East in the British Museum, his life’s ambition from the age of four and a half. He loves running workshops and lecturing on ancient Mesopotamian medicine and magic, literature, religion and the history. He is the author of several books for children including The Lewis Chessmen, and What Happened to Them and The Hero King Gilgamesh, as well as the Incredible Writing Box and books for adults, the latest The Last Resort Library. He has been described as the last of the great eccentrics
