Licoricia of Winchester was a prominent Jewish business woman close to Henry III whose rise to fortune makes for a fascinating read. Why was she brutally murdered? Patricia Skinner who oversaw the writing of this book by the late Susan Bartlett tells us about this amazing character.

Patricia Skinner was a university lecturer, publishing in the fields of jewish, iItalian and medieval History. She edited Suzanne Bartlet’s study of Licoricia of Winchester. She is currently writing a sourcebook on women’s lives in Medieval Europe with Elisabeth van Houts.

Henrietta Leyser is Senior Research Fellow in Medieval History with especial interests in religion and culture. She is the author of Medieval Women: A Social History of Women in England 450-1500.
