Willow Winston's Workshops

The workshops will take place on Sundays 22nd and 29th January, 10.30 am to 12 noon and 2.30 to 4.00 pm at Willow's studio in South Bermondsey, easily accessible by car.

They will be free.

The idea will be to create books which reflect our layered consciousness. Whether working or at leisure there are images, phrases, sounds and thoughts which intervene, if only for a moment, in the main flow of activity. We may be writing and, in pausing for a phrase, look up - perhaps out of the window - and see a cloud float by; we may hurry to the station with thoughts of the day's duties ahead when a flower or a cat catches our attention; we might even stop for a moment, look carefully and then rush on into the day.

In the workshops there will be the opportunity to explore ways in which interventions can be made in books which echo these aspects of experience and do not destroy the text but, rather, interleave it with extra experiences. The books will become part of the installation at JBW, giving viewers the opportunity to discover surprises and unlikely juxtapositions when they are leafing through the half-open books. It is hoped that poems and images, as well as books to be altered, will be brought by participants to the workshops.

There will be a supply of books and other materials available in Willow Winston's studio.

If you intend to stay for the day, do bring your lunch.
