Renowned Texan Jew, Kinky Friedman, came to fame as the leader of the outrageous
country and western band, The Texas Jewboys. A genuine cult character, he
is the author of a best-selling series of detective stories, featuring himself
as a wise-cracking, cigar-smoking, Greenwich Village-living, cat-loving
sleuth. He lives in a green trailer in the South Texas Hills with two dogs,
two cats and one armadillo.
This session featured a heady brew of anecdotes, question and
answer sessions and renditions of songs such as Ride 'Em Jewboy, somehow
marshalled by JC Editor and Kinky fan Ned Temko.
"Growing up, I remember what Joseph Heller said, which is: 'Nothing
succeeds as planned.' My goal was to be a country star as a child and if
that's what your goal is as a child, you'll wind up a best-selling novelist
every time. That's just what happens to you."
