Shelley Weiner
Jewish Book Week presented two opportunities to experience
a reading group. Hosted by author Shelley Weiner.
On 29 February the group discussed Conspiracy of Paper
by David Liss (Abacus 2001), a tale of finance,
murder and religion set in 18th century Jewish London.
On 7 March the group discussed Weeping Suzannah by Alona Kimhi (Abacus 2002), a funny and moving story of obsession
and human frailty in the melting pot of modern Israel.
Shelley Weiner was born
in South Africa
and worked as a journalist for many years before turning to fiction. Her novels
include A Sister’s Tale (1991), The Last Honeymoon (1992), The
Joker (1993) and Arnost (2001). She
teaches creative writing at Birkbeck College,
London.
