Yitzhak Rabin: Soldier, Leader, Statesman recounts Rabin’s foreshortened life, from his childhood in Tel Aviv in the 1920s through his military and political careers, taking in his ambassadorship to the US and, ultimately, premiership of Israel. Based on the author’s own relationship with Rabin, archival research and extensive interviews, the book depicts Rabin’s complex personality within the wider context of Israel and the Middle East.
Itamar Rabinovich is Professor Emeritus of Middle Eastern History at Tel Aviv University and distinguished global professor at NYU. He served as Israel's Ambassador to the United States in the mid-1990s and was president of Tel-Aviv University from 1999 - 2007. Rabinovich has been a member of the faculty of Tel Aviv University since 1971 and served as chairman of the department of Middle Eastern studies, director of the Dayan Centre for Middle Eastern and African Studies, dean of humanities, and rector.
