Welcome to the Jewish Book Council’s Homepage where you can keep up-to-date with all the developments for Jewish Book Week 2006 and access the archives from previous years’ sessions. We also have the winning entries of the Children’s Poetry Prize, a news page featuring news of all things Jewish and literary, which will include the line-up for Jewish Book Week 2006 as it’s confirmed, and much more.

Jewish Book Week 2006 was the most successful yet, with over 12,000 people attending sessions and many more who came for the book fair, organized for the first time by Waterstone’s. This confirmed that we are, in the words of one journalist ‘fast becoming one of Britain’s leading literary festivals’.

You may have enjoyed watching Steven Pinker and Jonathan Sacks debate key existential questions, Oliver Sacks examine the nature of consciousness, Cynthia Ozick reveal details of her first foray into writing, or any of the other 85 sessions which took place at last year’s Festival. If you missed these highlights of the Week, then don’t worry because you can find the transcripts, audio clips and other resources in the updated archive pages (link). In addition, we are putting together another stellar line-up for the next Jewish Book Week, which will take place from Saturday February 25th to Sunday 5th March, 2006 at the Royal National Hotel, London WC1. In the meantime, we hope you will enjoy the rest of the site.

Tickets are now on sale for Jewish Book Week 2006 which runs from 5th-13th March at the Royal National Hotel, Bedford Way, London WC1. This year’s programme is packed full of fantastic literary events and topical debates with distinguished authors from around the world, as well as an extended touring programme. Advance booking is advisable as many of the sessions sell out. Click here for the full programme and booking information.

Much more than just a record of the over 250 events held at Jewish Book Week over the last 15 years, you will also find a combination of transcripts, audio files and extensive additional resources about the books and the contributors. You can access this material simply by browsing from session to session, by using the search engine, or by using the contributor index.

This section of the site lifts the lid on who we are and what we do. If you are a translator or a publisher take a look at the Times Literary Supplement - Porjes Prize for Hebrew-English Translation. And don’t forget our special sections for children and teenagers for whom we have planned an exciting programme of events at Jewish Book Week 2006 as well as running our annual Primary School Poetry Prize.

We hope you will find the site easy to use, Comments and suggestions can be addressed to feedback@jewishbookweek.com.
