Isaiah Berlin: The Journey of a Jewish Liberal

Arie Dubnov

Stanford University historian Arie Dubnov reappraises the liberalism of Isaiah Berlin, perhaps the greatest public intellectual of the 20th century. Examining Berlin as an east European Jewish emigrĂ© as well as a British liberal intellectual, Dubnov stresses the tensions and conflict between his liberal philosophy and his pro-Zionist sentiments. In a special pre-festival presentation Dubnov shows how the great thinker and essayist struggled with the dilemmas of modern Jewish identity. 

Arie Dubnov is an Acting Assistant Professor at the Department of History at Stanford University, California, where he teaches European Intellectual History and Modern Jewish History.

This was a preview event for Jewish Book Week 2013 and was held at ORT. 

Signed copies of Isaiah Berlin Journey of a Jewish Liberal were available to purchase at the end of the event.
